Which passengers are checked ?
When you are leaving, customs officials may ask you to open your suitcase in order to check the contents. If you are leaving the European Union, you must make a declaration if you are travelling with more than €10,000.
When you return, you must go through the appropriate channel. Be aware that even if you go through the "nothing to declare" channel, customs officials may check to ensure you have no forbidden items.
what entitlements do passengers have ?
ATTENTION :
certain animal or plant species cannot be introduced into Belgium! If you have goods such as these in your possession, not only will they be confiscated but you also run the risk of being fined!
Customs are also entitled to check that you have not purchased any contraband merchandise.
