History Key Dates

First World War: creation of a military aerodrome.
Liege international exhibition in 1930: first air terminal, first line linking Brussels, Antwerp and Liege.
Post-Second World War: Sabena opens a scheduled route between Liege and Paris.
In 1976, the civil air terminal of Liege-Bierset is inaugurated at the same time as the opening of the Liege-Gosselies-London route.
In 1988, the Walloon Region decides that its two airports (Liege and Charleroi) should become economic development and regeneration centres.
On 30 April 1990, SAB S.A. (Bierset airport Development and Promotion) is created by Meusinvest.
In 1996, Cargo Airlines (CAL), an Israeli company, becomes the first major full cargo operator to locate at Liege. The same year, the contract with the integrator TNT is signed.
In 2007 SAB S.A. decides to abandon its original name in favour of “LIEGE AIRPORT s.a.” in order to better reflect its truly international vocation today.
