History Key Dates
- First World War: creation of a military aerodrome.
- Liege international exhibition in 1930: first air terminal, first line linking Brussels, Antwerp and Liege.
- Post-Second World War: Sabena opens a scheduled route between Liege and Paris.
- In 1976, the civil air terminal of Liege-Bierset is inaugurated at the same time as the opening of the Liege-Gosselies-London route.
- In 1988, the Walloon Region decides that its two airports (Liege and Charleroi) should become economic development and regeneration centres.
- On 30 April 1990, SAB S.A. (Bierset airport Development and Promotion) is created by Meusinvest.
- In 1996, Cargo Airlines (CAL), an Israeli company, becomes the first major full cargo operator to locate at Liege. The same year, the contract with the integrator TNT is signed.
- In 2007 SAB S.A. decides to abandon its original name in favour of “LIEGE AIRPORT s.a.” in order to better reflect its truly international vocation today.
