The international transport of time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products requires flawless coordination. Every minute counts. Every degree counts. At Liege Airport, we have structured our ecosystem to meet these requirements without compromise.

From storage to boarding, every step is part of a tightly controlled chain designed for the most sensitive shipments.

Infrastructure and technical specifications

Over 55,000 m² are dedicated to the storage and dispatch of medical and pharmaceutical products, in a fully controlled environment. Every critical parameter is continuously monitored: temperature, humidity, light levels, pressure and even the tilt of the goods.
This precision enables us to anticipate deviations and guarantee constant stability throughout operations.

The teams, trained in pharmaceutical standards by the International Air Transport Association, ensure the careful handling of the most sensitive products, including unstable or high-value goods. Direct access to the airside and integrated control areas allow for a seamless flow of operations, minimising exposure times.

An ecosystem of specialist operators

This performance is also underpinned by a network of experienced operators who are capable of managing complex pharmaceutical workflows on a daily basis.

Five partners handle all ground operations, from handling to preparing shipments:

  • Swissport
  • Aviapartner
  • Challenge Handling
  • BAS
  • WFS

Their coordination ensures a smooth process, even for sensitive operations or those with tight deadlines.

The operational chain is streamlined, from ground handling right through to boarding.

Pharmaceutical logistics: true expertise

Our pharmaceutical community brings together the entire supply chain: airlines, ground handlers, freight forwarders, and trucking companies. All participants are CEIV Pharma certified, ensuring a consistent and high standard of quality. This collaboration strengthens control over the cold chain.

The CEIV Pharma (Center of Excellence for Independent Validators) certification, developed by the International Air Transport Association, is now one of the most rigorous standards in pharmaceutical air transport.

Unloading

The use of ULDs (Unit Load Devices) on automated conveyors fits seamlessly into cargo operations.

Teams coordinate the preparation, positioning, and loading of these specific units to minimize exposure time and prevent cargo damage.

The result: operational continuity between storage, handling, and air transport.
